selling my 350d to get a 40D (on the non-AV sales forum now, go look - great price!).

But I want a remote release for it. I already have the IR release for the 350d. Does anyone know if that works on the 30D/40D?

If not then I'll chuck it into the bundle to sweeten it.

If it doesn't, then whats the cheapest remote release? Ideally IR but wired would be ok

30D doesn't have an IR receiver so I doubt (but haven't checked) that the 40D has one.

I've just bought a 3rd party cable release for my 30D for £9 delivered. The official Canon RS-80N3 is ridiculously expensive for a short piece of wire, a switch & Canon's fancy proprietary N3 connector.

Could you expand on where you got it ?

I'm looking for one too. Did you get the extension cable ?

Re: does the IR remote for the 350d work on the 30D/40D?

Forum member Wbessada sells them & other accessories on other forums. I guess a direct link would be frowned upon so try dropping him (or me) a PM. Think I had the last of his current stock though.

Edit
There's some interesting mods out there that involve chopping the standard cable in half & fitting PS2 connectors to enable cheapo keyboard extension cables to be used.

The 350/400D remote does not work as explained above and Canon are really being greedy ( OK capitalist...) with the 30/40D model given its "basicness"

thanks. Didn't like the idea of the cable remote not being very long, but I need something. Still, get rid of this and get something else..
