Hi Guys/Gals
Its my GF's 40th this coming Sat and we are having a party. We have hired a small pub for the evening and my band are playing.
I intend to take lots of pics as a lot of her old friends will be there but i need some advice how to go about it.
First off im ok using my 420EX, bounced off the ceiling. I normally use M mode, 1/125 F/ whatever and just let the flash sort it out. This normally gives me a good exposure and nice sharp shots but im looking for a more "club" look. Like backgrounds moving slowly while the foreground subjects are caught still in the flash. so i guess i need direct flash for this, im thinking AV mode, slow shutter but will the flash freeze the foreground? there certainly wont be a lot of light in the pub, not like a club anyway.
I also have an omni bounce that i dont really use but will this help out?

You will definitely need to use a 2nd curtain flash to make sure you get the movement then the still subject but thats about all I can advise you on. The flash fires at the end of the exposure instead of at the start so you wiil get a nicely frozen subject with blur prior........if you know what I mean. I doubt an omni bounce will do much and I agree that direct flash would be the way to go (from my very limited knowledge)

Thanks Steve. Ive not used 2nd curtain flash before (although i know where it is). I might give it a try on the kids tonight.
