London by day, by night and by underground

Was in London for the day yesterday. First time since I was about 3feet tall!!

Didn't really have much time for taking photo's so these are 4 of the 20 or so I grabbed.

I could easily fill up some nights and mornings photographing the different buildings in the crossover period. I'd also loved to have done some ultra long exposure stuff to make all the people and traffic dissapear!

#1 - Tower bridge

#2 - Time warp

#3 - The eye and parliament

#4

I know they're nothing special but thought I'd pop them up anyway

#2 for me. Most interesting shot of the bunch.

#1 London Bridge is leaning a bit to the right.
#3 is pretty cool but tricky to get an innovative new angle on this view
#4 too many halos for me

Looks like you had a nice try though. Some more of the gritty underground shots would be good rather than the touristy stuff. I have a slow shutter speed train rushing into a station in mind.

Some nice shots, #2 is very creative and different. Was there any pp to get that effect or was it some camera trick??

#3 is my favourite, nice exposure and colours for a nightime shot

Re: London by day, by night and by underground

Thanks guys.

#2 is actually a 3.2s exposure at 17mm. Was walking down that tunnel and thought it might look quite cool if I walked down it while the camera exposed. So it's handheld while walking.

There's loads and loads of shots that I would have loved to have taken if I had the time and wasn't laden down with about 8 shopping bags!! I only had my camera out once on the underground and only managed to take 5 shots I did want to do the train streaming into the station but we were always at the end of the platform and always arived just as the train did!! I think a 1 second exposure of a train coming in with a 2nd curtain flash would have made a pretty cool shot. That would have required me to get out the tripod, miss that train, get out the flash and annoy everyone I was with though!

Who's up for an AVforums London photography weekend?

Re: London by day, by night and by underground

Good shots Ally. Has given me even more inspiration for tomorrow, when I am going up to London on a purely photography trip.

The only problem with doing the slow shutter underground train shot, is that you are not allowed to have a tripod out on the platforms, along with not being allowed to fire a flash gun as it could distract the driver and set off the fire alarms.

Re: London by day, by night and by underground

You can get a similar effect on #2 by standing still and zoom in or out as you take the shot.
