Need to buy a film camera urgently

Hi guys,

I am starting A-level photography in a few weeks. I need to get a film SLR for it. The problem is, I am having difficulty finding one.

The brand isn't really a problem for me, but would prefer Nikon or Canon, with Nikon being my preferred choice. The budget that I have is a maximum of about £85, to hopefully include the body and at least one lens, but preferably two.

If any of you have a film camera, which you weren't necessarily going to sell, or if you know of somebody who has one, or somewhere I can get a camera for that price, then I would be very appreciative.

I have tried ebay, but they always go high above my price range, usually because they contain items that I would not require.

This should probably be in the classifieds, but I felt that I would ask all you guys, seeing as you are in the Camera market.

Thanks, Jarvis

Canon EOS 50E's go for about £40 on ebay. I've still got one - about 10yr old now but perfect order. Sorry it's not for sale!

You could always try a local Cash Converters shop too?

Re: Need to buy a film camera urgently

Hi Jarvis

I've got a Canon EOS 600 that I dug out only a couple of weeks ago, put a new battery in and finished off a film that had been in it for a few years! However, whilst it did prove it still works fine, the reality is that in these days of digital photography I'm probably never going to use it again.

It has full AF, plus a wide range of different modes, aperture and shutter priority modes and full manual control.

It has a Sigma 35 - 135 mm zoom with UV filter on it, plus I have an Osram EF282 flash gun to go with it.

I had a look on ebay and body and lens combinations seem to go for £40 - £50.

How does £50, including the flash sound? There's also another brand new battery (I got 2 for 1 via ebay). No case for the camera but there's one for the flash.

I'm in Berkshire, so if you're not local I'd need to add on postage as well but this would still be well within your budget.

Let me know...........

try ffordes.co.uk - they have quite a range of second-hand Nikon film cameras in your price range.

Re: Need to buy a film camera urgently

Hi you say Canon or Nikon but what else do you want total manual, Auto, Shutter or aperture priority do you want manual or auto focus
I would think that with an £85 budget you should be able to get a decent camara with out too much bother the only 1 I have left to sell is a Canon AV1 body only its in excellent nick but probably not exactly what you are looking for. Good luck in your search my experience of Ebay is be patient and put in your bid at the last second.

Re: Need to buy a film camera urgently

How desperate are you.
I was browsing in a camera shop a couple of days ago and the guy had a traded in F something Nikon in a box out the back he was trying to interest me in. I think he may have said F5
I told him I was happy with my D80.
I could check out the price and condition on Monday and let you know if you want me to.

Just for info - can someone tell me what models of Nikon film cameras are worth picking up and how much should be paid.
Also - what kind of things should I look for to assess the condition.

Re: Need to buy a film camera urgently

Hi

Got a Contax 139 quartz with motordrive f1.7 50mm Carl Zeiss lens. Tamaron
2x coverter, Yashica f2.8 28mm lens and a Tamaron 80 - 210 zoom lens, Cable release and a horrible new snakeskin leather kit for the camera body although the body has just had a new black leather kit fitted.

I would accept £ 120 for the lot or I would be willing to split.

Thanks for the offers guys. I'm going to read some information about the different cameras. Then I will get back to you.

Ofcourse if there is still anyone else, then I am still open to offers.
