Something Old + Something New

Man this looked better before I resized it.

Anyone got a resizing calculator to make the image smaller but still keep the aspect ratio the same ?

Anyway here goes the first of many test shots with new tamron 28-75mm

No calculator, I use lightroom which has it built in. Also consider the fact that the 3x2 ratio on a DSLR isn't set in stone - in fact the 'golden ratio' is often considered to be 4x3 - cleverly enough the same ratio as found in Olympus, Panasonic & Leica cameras. So feel free to do what you like with your crops

I'm sure you'll be the first to admit that the framing in this test shot isn't great, but the quality doesn't look amazing to me either... You've got a blue cast and the sharpness isn't quite there. I'm suprised because that lens is VERY highly regarded as a budget alternative to the Minolta 28-75 & 28-70. Shutter speed is high and F10 should be looking good... Interesting that you shot that in shutter priority, any reason? And what was your white balance?

Try again I guess! I've seen a lot of classics with this lens, don't be worried

lol I just turned the camera on and fired a few wasnt really paying attention hehe.

Custom white balance must be what it was when I was at my aunties lol.

Just wanted to see how well the lens operated whilst my eggs were cooking

This lens focuses pretty quick and is very quite, although somewhat heavy compared the the kit lens hehe.

What do you think of the second shed shot brammers.

I think it focused on the plants a bit further up in the middle of the sheds before.

It's alright... You've arranged it as well as it could be arranged, but it's still a bitchumen roof jutting into a shed in bright sunlight, isn't it?

Personally I'm not a fan of objects like that - I don't find them particularly atmospheric or exciting. To me they're dull and everyday. But there's certainly those, including on this forum, who do like them. Try a very square framing on the texture of the paint, or maybe isolate one of the slats using DoF.

I quite like that Ant Fly at the end though, suprised it came out that well since it was the first time I have tried to take a pic of something that just wouldnt stay the **** still.

Man them things sure can run for flying creatures.

Is it possible to resize the crop window itself rather than the image.

Because if I crop the image and then resize to 800x600 or an even 600x600 it just dont look right and its annoying me because it stops me from posting a lot of them

Im not sure if you use Elements at all.
Despite the dimensions of the shot. I would suggest for the purposes of posting , you first resize so that the longest side is 800 pixels
then edit , crop sharpen (last) ect. save just to get it around 200Kb then upload
The resulting image will be nowhere as nice as your original but when you get the hang of it will still look great

Ive just tried to do that on this unedited (and unremarkable) sky shot from this evening
Oh and BTW.. nice lens
