Under Water Digital Camera ?

Looking for a digital camera that i can take diving, to enable me to take pictures of underwater life, fish etc

Would be good if it also doubled as a general everyday camera as well if thats possible. i.e with the water proof case being removable.

Anyway like to hear everyones thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks

Re: Under Water Digital Camera ?

Well, I've just got a Olympus Mju 770 which is waterproof to a depth of 10m. It's quite noisy at high ISO (it goes up to 1600), has no IS and only 3x zoom, but the quality generally seems fine on normal photos.

Not sure if I'd have it if I didn't have a dSLR as my main camera, but as a small additional one its great fun.

Exclamation Choices! Choices!

Ahoy!

In short, unless the camera has been designed solely for underwater use, you will need to find one that has an underwater housing available for it.

Now do the research for the camera type you want and also for an underwater camera housing (can be pricey).

Here are a few links, but you'll have to Google, Amazon and/or eBay to cross-reference prices/types etc.

This link is for a Panasonic TZ3. Combo pack with camera and housing for £384.49. This is an example of a decent pocket cam and housing.

Re: Under Water Digital Camera ?

I have a Canon Ixus 800 and the WP-DC5 underwater housing. Works well, but I can't see a damn thing on the LCD underwater. I just point and hope!! I'll post a few pics up later when I get home.

Re: Under Water Digital Camera ?

What is it that prevents you seeing the display, once the camera is in the housing underwater??
Cheers

Re: Under Water Digital Camera ?

I just got a Canon A630 , great little digital with excellent picture quality . I noticed you can buy an underwater housing for this as well as adapters for the lens .Maybe worth checking out the range of Canons .

Re: Under Water Digital Camera ?

So far im looking at the Fuji F40 or the Sony Cybershot W90

Anyone know any review sites that would compare the two phones?

My budget is sub £200 and the camera lens should close flush with the body when off.

Keep the sugestions coming...

I'd take a punt at that one! Just make sure you test it without the camera in!!

Good point.........I cant get in time for my hols which is a shame, and have been thinking of buying the missus a new camera my old Ixus i is starting to look quite poor compared to the TZ3..... However if i can make it beach/pool/boat/snorkling safe for £15 there could be some life left in it yet. I think i'll see if i have any euros left when i get back and maybe put them towrads one.....
