Canon IXUS 950 Is vs Canon EOS 350D

Hi,

I'm going to be buying a compact camera for traveling and am very tempted by the Canon IXUS 950 Is, it's an 8MP camera but was wondering if something like this could compete with something like the Canon EOS 350D SLR for pictures.

On a one to one basis, a standard straight forward automatic shot, would there be a big difference? I've seen what the 350D can do, would the 950 Is match it?

Re: Canon IXUS 950 Is vs Canon EOS 350D

Hi Pete,

I've been battling with a similar issue although mine has been purely around compacts (i already own a 400d). I've been canvassing opinion on three Canons the 850i, 900ti and the 950. in reading tests, help from other forum members (thanks given) and a couple of in store demos I've decided to go with the 850,. my reasons were this:

The 900ti is just an aniversary model with a big pixel count (10mp) but little else to make it stand out.
The 950i is atractive as it's the latest model but... for me the 850 has won because of the type of shots that I intend to use it for (point & Shoot, nights out, work, just fun really) the availability of a 28mm true wide angle lens just seems perfect. it also has almost everry other feature that the 950 has apart from a slightly lower pixel level and it doesn't have playback red eye correction.

This is just my view and I hope that it helps you out. Other forum members have expressed different ones 9see my thread).

Good Luck
John
