Re: Anyone got the Olympus Sp-550?

I've been considering the SP 550 for a month or so and have checked out all the reviews. It's a mixed review with some thinking it is the greatest point and shoot there is and some thinking it doesn't do a good job. Every camera review is subject to opinion but the best way to tell before buying is to see the results for yourself. I would suggest checking out Lawrence Ripsher's reviews on this camera. He has a large gallery of shots taken with it and goes through many scenarios on how to get the shot. Is it perfect, no, but it's a 500 dollar camera not a 2000 dollar SLR so with that in mind from what I've seen from his photos it is an amazing camera for the price. The cost alone for a decent SLR zoom lense that will magnify to this level will almost pay for the camera. I am planning on getting one. It always amazes me in these forums how many critics there are and how few of them actually are published professional photographers. They expect or base their critisizm by comparing a 500 dollar camera to a 5000 dollar SLR.
