Question Confused SD or SDHC?

Just wondering what the difference is (apart from cost), between SD and SDHC?

If I just have a compact digital 8MP, would getting SDHC be going over the top?

Thanks Toby1

Re: Confused SD or SDHC?

SDHC is a high capacity version of SD. The 4GB SD cards often deviated from the official specs, to compatibility was touch and go.

SDHC is a different format of card (even though they're the same size and shape). If your camera doesn't specifically support SDHC, then they won't work. You will also likely find that 8GB is far too large for your camera to support anyway.

Re: Confused SD or SDHC?

Yeah, definately need to KNOW that your camera supports the SDHC cards.

If so then I can recommend this one.

Re: Confused SD or SDHC?

Thanks for that and the link.

My camera spec does say it supports SDHC and I was just wondering if they were worth it.

Thanks again

Re: Confused SD or SDHC?

You still need to be careful. My Panasonic SDR-S150 digicam takes SDHC cards up to 4GB (that's a big deal?) and yet the 4GB Veho SDHC card I bought from Scan doesn't work at all.

Now on the lookout for a compact digicam that will take a 4GB SDHC card.....

The SDHC are a lot slower than the SD.

My D80 takes both but I decided to stick with the SD

While it's true that the D50 can only format SD cards, SDHC (at least the 4G ones) will work in the D50 provided they are formatted on a PC.
