One from me, one from my Fiancee

Me and my fiancee went for a walk in the fields in the hope that there would be a lovely sunset. Sadly it was pretty dull.

My fiancee tried her hand at some close-ups of the flowers we found in the church yard.

She wanted me to post this one that she took and prost processed from the RAW file:

I think it's good for a first effort. She used the flash as it was dark.

Here's mine (not too happy with it )

As you say, not bad for a first effort, and VERY good with flash, as its usually the kiss of death for flower studies. It feels like if just needs a little more zing adding in PP - still a little dark perhaps.

#2 Actually I rather like it. I like the moody look, with the little splashes of red, and the curved poppy heads and grasses against the sky. Worth messing around to see what can be done with it I reckon.

I think I need to learn a bit more about Photoshop. It's a big load of stuff that I know nothing about at the minute

Re: One from me, one from my Fiancee

Had a play about in photoshop with my poppy photo, and the best I can do is:

Still a big blank bit in the sky, not sure if there's anything I can do to that!

Here's another I took last night - same rubbish light, but I think I did a better job of saving this one:

I think potentially the statue one could be really good.

Don't ask me how though! I really like the subject and the angle of the shot.

That whole shot has a nice moody feel to it. You could try bringing that out even more. Summut like this maybe...

But with more subtlety.

Re: One from me, one from my Fiancee

Would you mind telling me what you did to that? I know very little about photoshop (I must buy a book).

Did you dodge and burn it? If so, what were the parameters etc? It looks fantastic like that.

Re: One from me, one from my Fiancee

just ran it through a tweaked Glamblur action (which essentially layers set to multiply, gaussian blur and levels - original is by Kevin Kubota), duplicated the layer, masked out a few areas to bring back the detail, duped the statue, a bit of contrast and levels on that, burned in the sky a little (big brush, midtones @ 25% ish) then banged a border on it. Nothing fancy - 5 or 10 mins to do.

Can send you the psd if you want.

Yes, that's really nice. Great subject to begin with and effective PP in my eyes.
