Which Canon Powershot?

Hi

I haven't bought a digital camera for ages and thought it time to update. My current camera is a Kodak easyshare 4mp and was just an introduction to digital photography. Its served me well and loads of people have always said my photo's are great, despite them having more pixels and better cameras.

I'm waiting for the new canon S5 IS to hit the market and be reviewed, my other consideration is the A710 IS.

I usually just point and shoot, but I really want to be more creative and take some great photo's.

Anyone got an opinon on my choices?
Or heard any good or bad reviews on either model?

Thanks Tob

Re: Which Canon Powershot?

Frankly, I would be looking at the Panasonic FZ50/FZ8/FZ7 series. Having checked out the S3-IS @ £299.99, the Pana FZ50 would kick it's butt at much less moolah and is best in it's class . . end of!

If you wanna spend £300 quid, send it to me and I'll post you a dSLR. Can't say fairer than that. Oh . . I've had a few scoops, so may be burbling . . the Pana FZ50 doodah thing is accurate tho.

Oh . . a life on the ocean wave . . .

You can get the Canon s3 for £215 and the 710 for around £180 - Jessops have had a couple of offers on the 710 recently for £150. Do you want a big zoom? If so go for the S3 out of the 2 or wait for the S5 to see what that is like. I had the S2 and it was a great camera

Re: Which Canon Powershot?

I had the Canon A710is, I thought it was excellent. Image quality was very good, easy to use and quite a bit of manual fiddling can be acheived. I found it was super sharp at full zoom too. My Dad has the Panny FZ7, another excellent camera and a superb lens, but I notice a bit of noise in the shadows at almost every iso setting and thought it looked and felt a bit plasticky, but thats just me.
My choice would be the Canon A710is or wait for the new S5.
