Re: Green Shield Bug

These are very impressive.. my (now) poor entomology notwithstanding

Although I think borders are hit or miss.. these ones actually work very well
How did you get the Dark background?

Just how big are these bugs in real life?

Excellent shots John, were they taken in a studio setup?

Re: Green Shield Bug

The black/dark background is the result of using a flash to illuminate the insect; anything not in the flashguns range appears dark.

They were taken in my back garden with my Canon 350D, Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro and a Sigma EF 500 Super DG mounted off camera.

The insects are about 12 to 14 mm in length.

Number two has no crop, number one a slight crop.

Re: Green Shield Bug

These are great John. #2 is my fave - the composition is spot on as are the colours. Lovely.

Re: Green Shield Bug

Nice work. I never seem to be able to find any critters when I get the Macro lens on. Must try harder.

I like No 2 as well. The colour is great, and the flash technique works a treat.

Re: Green Shield Bug

Really like these John. My favourite is the second one. I also like the dark backgrounds so well done using the flash.

Cheers.
