3 from the Fife Coast

Was working accross in Buckhaven yesterday and decided to drive back to Edinburgh along the Fife Coastal Tourist route. Light wasn't particurally amazing so I didn't bother photographing the towns themselves, picturesque as they were.

#1 - The sun was partially obscured behind some clouds meaning it was giving quite a nice glow

10mm | 0.5s | F22 + ND8 | ISO 100

#2 - Taken about 15s later the sun had come out fully so the light was not as nice. I liked the wave in this one though so thought it would make a nice B&W.

10mm | 0.8s | F22 + ND8 | ISO 100

#3 - Dysart Harbour (at the bottom of "Hot Pot Wynd!")

10mm | 1/160s | F9 | ISO 100

#3 Has was bracketed and the sky of the dark image (-1.67) was merged into the normal exposure. The others have just had RAW conversion and obviously #2 the B&W treatment.

Re: 3 from the Fife Coast

I like the second one - Nice conversion with good contrast in the foreground.

The 3rd is also quite nice, dramatic composition, and good exposure.

Having fun with new lens I see. I'm looking forward to getting my Tokina 12-24. Just can't decide where to get it

Re: 3 from the Fife Coast

No. 3 for me

Love how a wide-angle lens can make something that would probably be a just a normal shot into something far more dramatic and interesting, opens up a whole new world of possibilities, well spotted mate.

Well at least you've decided which UWA angle to get!! A lot of people seem to have trouble at that.

I'll look forward to seeing some of your shots from it. I think it'll suit your style very well.

Re: 3 from the Fife Coast

allymac123, I'm always impressed with your shots. They always look ultra sharp and you seem to have a real empathy for your subjects (does that sound a bit fluffy?).
The 10-22 looks like a good investment. I like the conversion in #2 but find #1 more pleasing to my eye. I always thought the distortion from an UWA lens would be distracting but I love the way it draws the foreground to a distant point, in this case it seems to be off to the left. Love it.

Re: 3 from the Fife Coast

#3 for me out of those. I do like the first one, well composed but it does appear to have a touch of a green tinge about it especially on the right hand side (might be my screen though)

I'll have to check on another monitor but I can't see said green tinge on this one. Cheers though

Re: 3 from the Fife Coast

#1 is great! I like the colours more than the B&W version. Lovely shot.

#3 looks a bit soft in the distance. Good idea for the shot, but did you get the hyperfocal distance thingy right? I'm suffering from the same thing at the moment - very tricky.

Just checked the 100% crops and your right. It is a little soft. I did spend a little time playing around with the aperture to see what was needed and when zoomed in on the camera, for some reason, F9 looked just as sharp in the distance as F20 did. So i bracketed a set of F9 exposures. Oh well, you live and learn!!
