Nikon D80 SLR

I have today purchased the Nikon D80 with a 135m lens. Any advise on how to best set the camera up?

Also anyone out there who has used this camera for portrait photos and can give me advise. Should I set the camera up on auto?

Hi. I recently bought the same camera and so far really love using it.

My first piece of advice is read the manual! The camera has a portrait mode, so you would typically use that, not auto. The clues are all there

Enjoy your new toy, and don't forget to post some pics

Re: Nikon D80 SLR

Nice set up.

Really you should just take it out side after reading the manual , just click away, changing the settings to suit the mood, setting the camera to auto is ok just to get your feel, but i would advise to use it on manual as soon as poss.
The best thing about the dslr is that if it don't look right then just delete it.

Sunny day, focus onto a rose, set your camera to auto W/B + 1/250 + f8 , see how it goes check your image and adjust to suit.

regards
