Web Galleries

I've got my own domain name and was setting up a website in joomla but it's a bit of a pain in the backside and all I want is a web gallery. I know flickr and others are free but I'd really like to use my domain name.

Does anyone know of any webhosting galleries that will let you use their storage and allow you to use your domain name? I know smugmug will let you but charge you something like $150 per year I don't mind paying a little bit but not that much!

Thanks

Dont you get some storage with the domain name? Who provided the name to you? Might be worth a check. I get a Gb with my Yahoo domain.

Re: Web Galleries

You use Joomla.

Why not use one of the many Joomla Gallery components? http://extensions.joomla.org/index.p...1779&Itemid=35

If none of those grab you why not just use any free gallery scripts like Jalbum, Coppermine, Gallery2, SimpleViewer, etc etc etc and then just add a link to the gallery page from your main menu which will automatically put it under the wrapper component and so will appear as though it's actually a part of Joomla site?

Re: Web Galleries

Have you tried using photoshop's automated web gallery creator or there is a free piece of software called JAlbum which does the same thing. Then just upload them to your host using an FTP program

i'm trying out gallery2 with joomla, it's just a pain in the bum as to me it's not that straight forward compared to something like smugmug! A lot of messing to get the theme on your joomla site linked to the gallery2 site. I guess I should hang in with it for a while longer

thanks

And therein lies the problem. Have you checked out the offerings of SmugMug fully? They offer unlimited space [I'm currently around 5Gb] and unlimited bandwidth as well as secured galleries etc. I previously designed my own site on a server hosted in a data centre and tbh couldn't be bothered to maintain it once I'd tried SM. Oh and you can sell shots for profit too

There are other packages out there but when I researched this SM were the best value for money. With the current exchange rate is only £75 a year which is a total bargain just for the unlimited storage

Re: Web Galleries

Would an option be to have the images hosted on Flickr, but the thumbnail images linked from your own gallery site? You'd hardly need any storage space that way...

I was looking at smugmug again this morning and I think I may just go with that, you can set up some very nice sites with very little effort

Thanks

I registered the other day for a free trial and used a referal code I found on the net otherwise I would have done

going to try the free trials for smugmug and photosite. Photosite seems similar to smugmug but cheaper. All the review sites I saw for photosite say it's $99 per year but on the actual site it's $3.54 per month plus a $10 set up fee and that allows you to have your own domain name

anyone use photosite?
