NYC Skyline

Just been messing about with one or two of the photo's I took in New York last year. Nothing special as I don't really know what I am doing with photo-editing, or photography in general really! But I wanted to straighten this one up (it was at a slight slant originally) and wondered what it looked like in black and white. A quick contrast and brightness adjustment and this is what I ended up with;

Now, what I am wondering is - can anyone with super editing skills remove the boat from the pic (I can send the original full size pic) and make it look like it was never there?

Cos I am pondering having this blown up to a 35"x25" mosiac poster to put up in my bedroom, and loosing the boat would be nice, but I can't do it myself as it just looks like an obvious cut n paste

Re: NYC Skyline

Great shot Matt,
Personally I would leave the boat. I would boost the contrast even more to make the buildings and sky more punchy, and I would crop some of the froeground and sky to give a wide print (panorama). This would look as good as anything on the shelves of Athena.

Re: NYC Skyline

Thanks

Reason I left it in that aspect ratio was cos thats what it would need to be if I had it enlarged and then split to 9 seperate prints to make a mosaic poster like this type of thing;

Wow - thats cool. Is there somewhere that will do this for your own prints or do you do it yourself?

Re: NYC Skyline

Here's the cropped version. Also raised the contrast a little bit more.

Re: NYC Skyline

Ditto - I'd leave the boat. Removing it would be quite tricky as you'd need to get rid of the wake as well, and put a bit of building in behind it. Also, if you're going to blow it up large, the edits would show I reckon.

If you'd waited 30 secs you'd have had the boat nicely in the bottom left third, with the wake line leading the eye up to the skyline

Re: NYC Skyline

I have a similar format print on canvas pre 9/11 - so the NY skyline has the twin towers intact - which cost about £70 from Athena 5 or 6 years ago.

Re: NYC Skyline

Played about a bit with a downloaded copy of the pic you posted. Not much resolution on it so it's a bit patchy in places. Also cut the boat out & moved it just for fun

Re: NYC Skyline

Tobers - That looks a good job there fella! But now I've seen it, I think I actually prefer it with the boat as opposed to without it....
