This is an example of my early digiscoping experimenting using my D80 and my ED82 Nikon Scope.
I tweaked the contrast in levels and sharpened a bit.

D80 and my ED82 Nikon Spotting Scope using an adapter - Nikon FSA-L1.
Not as good as a prime lens but cheaper than spending £6000+

Really sharp and detailed shot there Steve

My father has got a Celestron 8 SCT telescope which is in pretty good condition considering it's over thirty years old. I've been meaning to get an adapter for my camera but have been putting it off until my backyard has been done. I'm pretty fortunate where I live that there isn't that much light pollution compared to your average town or village so I should be able to get a decent moon shot. If I can get one as detailed as yours, I'll be over the moon

Focusing was very difficult, I had to use manual focus, automatic sucked.

Thats very similar to my attempts with my 70-200VR and TC-14 convertor which gave me about 280mm - close to the long end of your 70-300.

All my focusing in my digi set-up has to be done on the scope and I have very little control of the camera. I have to limit the exposure by using fast shutter speeds.
This may be down to my inexperience with the camera though.

Heres one I did a couple of years ago using my Meade 8" scope and a Minolta A1 held to the eyepiece. I need to get an adapter so I can use my D70s.

That second one is superb Steve. Showing the moon part in shadow alway brings out the texture of the surface well. It's a bit noisy though. I notice the aperture was f/13 and the ISO was set to 1600 - is the aperture fixed at this size? When I take moon photos with a 300mm lens I keep the ISO as low as possible and use apertures of around f/5.6-8, which keeps the noise low to allow the most detail to be recorded. I really do need that though - with a 300mm lens the moon is very small in the frame!

I'm digiscoping using the camera with normal lenses removed and a scope attached.
I can't seem to alter any of the camera settings except the shutter speed even in full manual mode.
I've tried to lock in a lower ISO in the menu but it won't let me. I'm hoping that this is down to my lack of experience rather than something I'm stuck with.
More homework needed with the Manual I think.
