Re: 3 from today!!

Hello.

Excellent shots. Nice and sharp. Can't choose a favourite. I've recently bought the same lens. I haven't taken any macro shots yet. Will certainly be having a go now!

Re: 3 from today!!

Hi Geoff,

You certainly haven't let yourself down at all! Lovely images.

Some minor thoughts:

#1 I love the main purple flower. I don't find the lower part of the image as pleasing though. Lovely background with nothing to distract the eye.

#2 Again a great choice of angle to keep the background uncluttered. I would also like to see a similar shot with a slightly larger DOF to get more of the flower petals in focus.

#3 I think this is a cracker. Filled the frame. Lovely DOF. Focused on the centre and getting softer as you more towards the edge of the frame. Lovely shot and my favourite! Very pleasing.

SweetGirl: A lovely shot as well. Great colour. My only slightly negative thought would be regardig the background. There seems to be a straight line (Although out of focus due to DOF) running from the bottom to the top of the image which passes right behind the flower head. The colour in the lower right is also slightly distracting from the main subject for me as well. It may have been difficult to find a balance between the angle to view the subject from and finding the least distracting background though - and perhaps you were already at maximum aperture for DOF while still keeping the flower sharp? Hope that doesn't sound too negative as it's by no means an unpleasant shot!

Cheers.

Re: 3 from today!!

These are cracking! I'm receiving this lens early next week (from onestop) and am really looking forward to the macro feature now!
Love the softness and eveness of the backgrounds. But it's the sharpness, colours and lighting which elevate them.
Really great stuff.

Edit: I'm really surprised at the shallowness of DoF to say they were on f/5.6. Is that a feature of macro modes?

Hi icemanlonline - thanks for your comments. I just used Adobe Photoshop!! Increased the size of the canvas, filled the background with black and then put a 5px white stroke around the image.

I was about 2-3 metres from the subject in each case.

Sorry senu, I had set the width to the landscape shots to 750 and then just automatically set the width of the first one to 750 instead of the height!! SORRY!

Thanks very much for your very valid points!

I didnt realise the DOF was so shallow until I downloaded it! I agree with you though!

Thanks again!

Superb shots, I have the same lens and have yet to get this type of result, perhaps I had better start taking the tripod out of the car.

What camera is it married too ?

Re: 3 from today!!

Very nice set of pictures.

Have just been bitten by the photo bug again - collected a D80 yesterday and more to the point ordered the 70-300 APO from Onestop which makes seeing pictures like this, with that lens, even more pleasing.

Re: 3 from today!!

All of them for me geoff, but number #3 if I had to choose - composition for that one is spot on mate, filled the frame which I personally think works best for dandelion clock shots.
