Eccles Safety Lamp (Using Maplin Portable Soft Lighting Studio)

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Portable Soft Lighting Studio from Maplin after reading about it in this forum. I've got a free evening so thought I'd have my first play with it.

My wife was given an "Eccles safety Lamp" by her father from his days in the coal industry. I thought it might make an interesting subject.

All comments appreciated.

Cheers.

That's lovely. What background did you use? The Maplin box I've got has a blue and grey background, but not black.

Re: Eccles Safety Lamp (Using Maplin Portable Soft Lighting Studio)

Hey Tobers,

Yup, I have the same thing (Blue and grey backgrounds). I bought some A3 sized sheets of card in various colours - I used a few black sheets in this case. Then I used the levels and curves to darken the background so it went completely black.

I've had a play with a few other household items (Eggs on black, white and a mirror. Sunglasses. Remote control). Nothing particularly interesting though. I think I need a macro lens to get in closer to add interest for the ordinary items.

Cheers.
