Help - Father's 60th birthday coming up!!

Hello all,

I need some help as I have been off the scene for a few months.

Basically I am buying my Father a new compact digital camera for his 60th. He has an old cybershot that is actually quite cr@p.

Anyway, I am willing to spend around £250 to £300 but if the quality gets a lot better for a little more then I will think about it.

He has no photography skills other than point and shoot so a complex camera is probably not really the best option.

I hope someone can help me out cause there are too many to choose from.

Cheers all.

OK,

Had a quick look at the sony t series. I quite like the look of the t-100 or t-20.

Has anyone had any experience with these cameras??

I will keep on looking at other cameras but any help until then would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Help - Father's 60th birthday coming up!!

I just bought a camera for my dad's 70th. It was the Fuji F31fd which is really ideal for him as it not only takes great photos normally, but the low light performance and face detection make it the choice when photographing the grandchildren.

Only £165 or the F20 is almost as good (less some features) for £99.

He has been really pleased with the results and as with your Father, doesn't want to do anything other than take pictures, so this camera deals with that side of things really well without complication.

Thanks Ikki. Looking at the camera now.

I was also looking the IXUS range. Which one represents best value for the money?

Probably the Ixus 800, but the A630 or A710IS will give better image quality, have full auto and scene modes and are cheaper.

Re: Help - Father's 60th birthday coming up!!

I have been looking around and I see the panasonic FX01 and FX50 receive some really great reviews. The FX01 is very well priced also but I the FX50 looks great also.

I am just wondering if the FX50 is too much for him?

By the way, thanks for all the help so far!!!

Will need to make a decision soon though.

If you are looking at a Panasonic superzoom, I would suggest that the TZ3 would be much better suited and it is getting great user feedback.
