Sigma 135-400mm

I'm seriously considering this lens and wondering if people have any experience with it?

It's to replace my water damaged Tamron 70-300 and it will leave me with a gap between 55 and 135 until I have funds for a 24-135 but I think in the long run it's a better investment than another 70-300.

Edit - The 135-400 with a Pentax AF fit is £370 here, £100 less than Jessops:http://www.tecno.co.uk/Store/s45516/...Id=2143&comp=y

Re: Sigma 135-400mm

I picked one up cheap on ebay.

Sigma 135-400mm, 400mm, F13, ISO 400, 1/500s

Sigma 135-400mm, 400mm, F11, ISO 400, 1/60s

One click photo fix in PhotoPaint
Resized to 800x600
KM5D 6mp

Here's a crop from a moon photo

Sigma 135-400mm, 400mm, F14, ISO 100, 1/60s

It's a bit soft at the long end at wide apertures - but then it is giving you the equiv of 600mm.
And it does sharpen up OK.
The focusing can be a bit slow at the long end too.

But if you can pick one up on ebay like I did it can be a bargain.

Oh, and it is big, and at 400mm is enormous.

Re: Sigma 135-400mm

I've decided to use common sense and I'm going to plump for the Sigma 70-300 APO.

I've seen it online for £160 saving me £200 over the 135-400 which will cover the cost of Adobe Lightroom which I also need to buy now the beta and 30 day free trial have expired!

I'm also thinking forward and now the new Pentax cameras (K10D) have USM/HSM auto focussing it seems silly to invest in lenses that will be redundant!

I'm hoping the Sigma will be much better than the budget 75-300 Tamron it's replacing?

Edit - I've just found it on ebay for £110ish brand new from Hong Kong £68 for the lens £45 for delivery...
