help needed with ultra-zoom choice

i am looking for a camara with 10x zoom optical.
i currently own a fuji s5000 which is great but the screen is a bit small (1.5").

i tried the kodak v610 but have found the pic quality worse than the s5000.

the feature i really want, which is on the kodak,is the date stamped on the photo.
this sort of info is not normally listed on the spec of the camara,so does anyone know which ulta-zoom camaras have this function but also have good pic quality when used indoors in "auto" mode(im no expert!)

anyone help?

Ahoy!

Look at the Panasonic FZ7, FZ8 or FZ50 (try Purelygadgets). You ought to find that you can adjust the date stamp info in the menu system to suit yourself. Read the manual first though. The FZ50 is regarded as the best 'bridge' camera.

The Panasonic TZ3 is just out. £239 cheapest at the moment which seems pretty reasonable for a new model. Looks good, 10x zoom, and nice & pocketable. I'll probably get myself one to replace my ageing compact Pentax Option s5 which is crap to be honest.

Re: help needed with ultra-zoom choice

I've just bought a TZ3 and I'm very happy.

Feels like a quality piece of kit and is easy to use and perfectly compact with no need for a lens cap.

I'm no professional, but it's definitely in another league to my previous Sony T5 which cost about the same.

Re: help needed with ultra-zoom choice

Potatoman, you do realise that the date (along with a lot more information) has actually been stamped on every digital photo you've ever taken? It's called exif - it doesn't show up on the picture itself, but it can be read from the jpg file using a computer. Is this good enough for you, or do you want the lettering to actually appear visibly on your images?

Re: help needed with ultra-zoom choice

Have a look at the Canon S3 IS, it got very good reviews on DP review and as a bonus it has a movie mode on a par with a lot of camcorders.
