IXUS 2 APS (Non-digital) HELP - film won't rewind!

Hi,

Not sure if anyone here still remember those... My daugther has an IXUS2 APS camera, the one that uses 35mm films.

Anyway she took it to her school trip and we went to Costco today to print a set or two. When we got there I couldnt get the film out! I tried replacing the battery, poked the small buttons and the film compartment release one - nothing. The guy behind the counter reckoned the film is stuck, so until it's out we cannot do anything.

Did anyone have this kind of issue before? is there any way of getting it out? any reset options? if not, what is the best place to get it done?

any help would be great!

I remember this camera - I had one in 1998/99? The film stuck thingy was a common problem for quite a few of the early Ixus APS models. If you Google "elph film aps stuck" and the such then you'll see quite a few postings. Elph was/is the US name for the Ixus.

The only solution I can remember was to take the camera to a Canon authorised repair shop and have it diassembled. Of course there's always a DIY solution but I assume you'd have to do it in darkroom conditions.

At least you don't need to find an excuse to buy her a digital camera now

I've googled all the possible combinations I know but none had actually mentioned anything but taking it to a repair shop! can't believe no one actually tried it...

would a DIY "dark room" conditions be enough not to ruin the film? If so than I'll try it myself, just to get this film out.

I'll than use the 70-80 quid I "saved" and get her a new digital one. Any quick recommendations for such?
