Re: getting a new camera this week

Looks good to me! I only just replaced my >2yr old Olympus C-770 with a Canon 400d DSLR in January and up till then it served me pretty well. That SP-550 looks a lot better than my C770 so I'd imagine it would be a pretty good alternative to a DLSR. Its zoom range seems pretty incredible with a pretty good wide angle and ridiculous telephoto. The main problem I had with my C770 was it was pretty crappy in low light (clubs etc). Don't know what that one will be like though I do notice it doesn't have a hot shoe adaptor for an external flash if you were were wanting a decent flash. My C770 did do night shots fine though (tripod mounted).

New I'd be tempted by this:

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/ipo...K?sck=47430563

Alternatively a 2nd hand 350D or Nikon D50

One on the forums earlier, D50 with

Kit lens
50mm f1.8
Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro
and 2gb sd card

All for £350

Re: getting a new camera this week

If your talking DSLR remember you need to factor in the cost of lenses (telephoto etc). If going down DSLR route you might aswell go full hog and get a Canon 350d for ~£350

Re: getting a new camera this week

Ahoy!

Look at these: Panasonic DMC-FZ7, FZ8 and FZ50. I have the older FZ3 and an Olympus E500 dSLR. The Olympus SP-550 looks just fine.

Also consider Sony DSC-H5.

I only mention the Panasonic's as the SP-500 is also a 'bridge' or 'prosumer' type camera.
