Is my Minolta 7i worth repairing?

Looks like the LCD panels on my Minolta Dimage 7i have knackered. The image looks like a TV with really bad interference - just a set of softly shifting shapes when you pan the camera around.

Everything else works just fine and the screen displays previous images with no problems

Anyone know if the panels can be replaced cheaply?

Would doubt it TBH, not so much the cost of the parts but the labour needed to dismantle/re-assemble. Was quoted £95 (plus P&P in both directions) to repair a Canon P&S, this was a "standard charge"....

You could try:

http://www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk/load...tom=bottom.asp

This will give you a rough idea of costs (obviously you may do better shopping around).....

Sounds more like a sensor problem if you can display existing images OK.

Is it still taking pictures? Those old minolta cameras were all fitted with a sensor prone to failure - right up until the A1. If the shots are coming out bad then it's probably this - and that means a free repair Do a google search on 7i sensor failures.

BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT!!!!

Found some links on Google. Will contact them later nice one!

EDIT: just phoned the nearest repair centre and they'll take it in and fix Free of charge.

What a superb site this is... I was thinking I'd just have to junk the camera.

Re: Is my Minolta 7i worth repairing?

Hi Chris,

did they give you a estimate of how long it would take?? I've read on a few forums (www.steves-digicams.com etc) that it is taking ages for the parts to become available.

Sony now own Konica/Minolta's camera business and took over their warrant/repairs, but spares have been very diffcult to come by.

I currently shoot with an A1 (about to upgrade this monday to a 30d).

Just a heads up

regards
Gary
