Question Nikon SLR AF Lens use on DSLR?

Hi,

This may be a silly question, but after many years of using 35mm I have decided to go digital. I have a Fuji s304, but it's only useful for snapshots.

Question is..... will my Nikon F65 SLR AF lenses fit onto a Nikon DSLR body?????

Excuse my ignorance !

Cheers
Deano

The chart on this page might answer your question.

That chart only really tells you which lenses will fit on the various Film bodies.

As far as the Nikon DSLR bodies go, they will use just about every lens they have produced AI onwards so your AF lens will definately work.

However, the functionality will depend on which body you go for.

For example:

If you buy a D40 you can use all of the AIS lenses in Manual Mode with Manual Focus. You can use the AF D and G lenses with metering, but no autofocus. All other lenses will Autofocus and Meter in all modes

If you buy the D50, D70s or D80 you can use all AIS lenses in Manual Mode with Manual Focus and gain autofocus and full metering in all modes with the AF D and G lenses.

If you go for the D200, D2X you can gain metering though the AIS lenses, obviously you can also use AF with all AF lenses, except the F3AF system (never even seen one these lenses)

Well, in typing that, i've confused myself, so no idea if it helps you Probably best if you post the spec of the lens, and we'll take it from there.

Re: Nikon SLR AF Lens use on DSLR?

Thanks guys,

I have two lenses a 28-80 and a 70-300, both Nikkor AF G. I guess from your replies that means I best get a d50/60/70 body, as that will allow autofocus as well as manual and full metering?

Many thanks

Deano

Yes, you will be able to use both of these lenses with either the D50 or D70/s or D80 (there is no D60 ) with Full auto Focus and Metering.

It's worth remebering though that the sensor on all of these cameras will magnify the focal length by a factor of 1.5. So you're 28-80 will become a 42-110 and the 70-300 will become a 105-450 (thanks nealgs)

Should that last one not be 105-450 rather than 105-300??

Re: Nikon SLR AF Lens use on DSLR?

I was about to ask this same question, thanks for the advice! Presumably a Nikon Speedlight will also be compatible?
