Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

I was up at the Bristol show yesterday,so I popped in say hi to the chaps at the Avforums stand.Took a few shots but the got corrupted so cant post them sorry guys.

Anyway after being roped in to play the xbox(which I was useless at)I had a realy nice chat to stuart wright and Phill Hinton.

They both mentioned how pleased they were with the way this forum is going and the high standard of the competition.
In the course of the coverstation, they mentioned that the photography section is being left out of Of the Avpodcasts, which they believe is a valuable resource that members could benefit from.

So they asked me If I was intrested in running this idea past you guys AND if I would be intrested in being the "voice" of the Podcast.Apparently they need a token welshman on the team .

I obviously told them that I was completley under qualified and that there was far better candidates frequenting here.

Anyway I would like you guys to voice your Ideas of what you think would make good Photography based Podcasts(content)etc,
And also anyone who is a competent and confident speaker who might be interested in Conducting it should I Gib out.

cheers

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

Please note guys.

This is not my idea.It is the suggestion of the forum administrators.

Do not under estimate the clout of this forum,Big names were falling over themselves at the show to be interviewed for the forums Podcast.(What hi fi,Denon, pioneer.etc etc

Who knows in time, maybe we will be able to interview and speak to reps from Nikon,Canon, sigma etcwith our questions and about their products.

Might make for a really interesting resource.

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

I'm undecided.
I'd certainly give it a go but I can't help but feel that as a visual medium photography is better suited to forums / flickr than podcasts.

Just my 2p.

I think it's a great idea - not sure how you would fill it each month, but would make an interesting bi monthly spot. Like you said, an interview with some of the big names about new products, photoshop techniques, reviews?

Go for it Vulkan! great idea! - looking forward to hearing you soon

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

I never said I was actually gonna do it.The idea is that it can be a place where you are upto date.Whats new on the market, lenses cameras or whatever.

There would be a good bit of time, Research etc for the Podcaster involved, which is a problem for me at the mo as Im doing a open uni course and working full time.

Id like to do it but the time issue and the fact that im not to Hot On the knowledge side of things dont really quailfy me.But I can talk the hind leg of a donkey

So anyone thats interested please register your vote.

All the info compiled will be past on to Phill Hinton.

Seems like a great idea but I think bi-monthly or quarterly would allow sufficient relevant material to make it interesting

I'm in for this - sounds like a great idea. You could get down some of the frequently asked items, along with user reviews of their own kit and what they use it for....Bristol Pete for sports etc etc.

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

I think it's a great idea. Been wondering why I have a PSP. Obviously I should use it for MP4 podcasts.

In fact I'd even give some photoshop tutorial stuff. Not too often 'cause I'm quite busy but I'd willingly do some tutorials on retouching, studio shoots and the likes.

I think there is a wealth of talent on this forum and it would be good to see some tutorials (e.g. "How I did my landscape" Liquids landscape, "A day out with Bristol Pete", etc.)

Edit: and I see Radiohead would be willing too.

This sounds like a good idea. I have to admit I haven't listened to many of the podcasts as I'm not into DVD and home cinema as much as I used to be. Would definitely be interested in listening to one about photography.

Hadn't you better ask Pete 1st before recording the podcast - he hasn't said yet has he?

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

Yes mate that is true,But the above is all hypothetical at the mo anyway.TBH I dont quite know What They have in mind.
It would just be nice to get some ideas together of what forum members would like to hear, and present them for discussion.

The bristol pete one was suggested by Radiohead, and im sure many here would love to hear from him,im sure he would be up for it,If thats the way it develops.

Thanks simon

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

Glad to hear there is some interest in this idea.
The most popular place at AV Forums is usually the LCD TV forum.
I reckon that's because every UK household has a TV and a lot of people are upgrading to flatscreens.

When you consider that there are probably close to as many digital cameras in UK homes - certainly digital cameras have got to be one of the most common items of kit - then I think there could be a big demand for a topical, informative and entertaining digital photography podcast.

I know there are bigger forums for photography than ours but that doesn't mean we aren't committed to the subject.
I certainly feel that there should be enough news and new products to do a weekly half hour production. Ideally with at least 2, ideally 3 or more contributors anchored by the best speaker. (Rather like our other podcasts).
However, I feel we should start slowly and have a short piece in our home cinema podcast, and if it proves popular with you guys and iTunes listeners, we can grow the content until it's good enough to branch out.

Something important to consider is that provided you have broadband, Skype and a headset, recording in a podcast is very easy. There is certainly nothing to get nervous about as Phil edits out any screw-ups. It's just important that you know the subject (obviously) and are happy to talk about it as if you were talking to an interested work colleague.

At this point we need you guys to get organised with some volunteers to participate. You need to organise content, too since you guys are the experts. We will very much take your advice on how best to proceed in most respects.

We await your replies with interest.

Re: Avforums Podcast For Photograpy Section

Hi stuart,Thanks for popping in and Validating this thread. It was nice to meet both yourself and phil at the show,I hope the It was a good show for you and the avforums.

The general consensus here seems to be,for content to focus more on advice and tips on becoming better Photographers,With ocassional spots from forum household names.

This industry moves far more slowy than Home cinema so I think the worry is that, product releases or news might stretch a bit thin.(conjecture of course)

The editing comment has certainly made me feel a lot better about being involved .

Mods could you please make this a sticky.

Please continue to post your ideas. If there is anyone who would like to voluteer for involvement, please vote in the confident speaker bullet.

Once we have discussed content etc we can put our ideas along with volunteers names, forward to stuart and phill for discussion.

Thanks

Hi, i voted that I wouldn't use it, but probably because I don't understand it!

I can't speak for others but if the technical jargon could be explained I may warm to the idea!

I can appreciate that everyone is thinking of new ideas to enhance our knowledge and enjoyment of our hobby and fair play to them.
But personally AVForums gives me everything i need, so i would not be using a podcast (whatever it is)

Maybe a different approach is to ask users the sort of thing they want to see - so deliver what's wanted rather than what we think people might want.

Guy,Thats the idea of this thread .

In My Op, I more or less invited comments based on what people want.

Quote:
Anyway I would like you guys to voice your Ideas of what you think would make good Photography based Podcasts(content)etc
Up to this point we only have one or two suggestions.Maybe we need to action these as a first step and see how its recieved.

Hopefully if it becomes established, better known and understood, people might be more inclined to chip in with thier ideas.
