All is not lost.

Ok,everyone goes through the batch of images and the end of a days shooting and comes across some stinkers.
I have always pressed the delete button and never given them a second thought.

So bourne out of bordom,I thought I would let loose with artistic license and try to make something out of a "nothing" shot.

These wernt really very good shots, but after a tinker I actually quite like them.

The idea here Guys... is artistic impression.....so no need to comment on the technical side.

What you think of my salvage operation so far.

Is that a cryptic comment of some description?? Or have you just finished your third one?

Re: All is not lost.

I always think it's worth checking through your old shots, I've done the same many times and found ways to process old shots that I thought were unusable.

Those are nice shots vulkan.

Nice work Vulkan.

Decided to join you...........

The original:

This was one of those could have been images.

The reworked - I know the frame is a bit off, just something I did this morning in a few mins.

Re: All is not lost.

Great recoveries there Vulkan and pixelpixel

To be honest I like all of them. I like #1 best.

I never really delete any shots I've taken. I just archive them away on my external hard drive and eventually a DVD. There has been the odd time I've went back and played with a shot to try and salvage it, but I normally scrap my efforts and do something else.

@ pixelpixel. Where did you get that border? I quite like it. It isn't the Andreas borders ones is it because it looks different.

Yourself? What drew it or scanned it from an old polaroid exposure?

It's very good and I do sometimes use these borders to add a nostalgic feel to photos that I feel need it.

Thanks for attaching the border though. I've saved it and will probably use it one day if that's ok.

Using photoshop and the standard brushes! This was something I learned in my early days of photoshop I just don't get much time these days to play around any more.

Surely you are not that old!
The One click wow books from elements and Photoshop have cds with a loads of effects for layers , frames and enough really to keep you from needing to make new ones for a long time

Whatever makes you happy : Vista may not allow you use PS 3 though

The "Wow" books were not meant to replace the Bibles : Just a quick way to get the Wow factor ( pun completely unintended) without the graft.
I simply scan the books once use the CD and then put them in the study shelf to gather dust.

The size of the "Bibles" reminded me too much of my medical postgraduate books: As such I just .... avoided

Scott Kelbys books are more easy going without being unaccomplished: If nothing else they spur you on to experiment

Re: All is not lost.

Hi, To blow the background I actualy had better results using picasa.I used the fill light and highlight sliders to blow the background out, then I adjusted the shadow slider slighty to bring the main back to life again. It still looked a little OTT so was forced to convert to black and white to tone it down.

sharpened and cropped.

This is obviously" the naked chef" type way of doing it but it took 2-3 minutes and I think the result speaks for iteslf.
Picasa is a great little piece of software, for basic editing..although I use elements for the more complex stuff.
