New Compact - Quick Shutter Needed

I want a compact with a fast shutter and as small as possible. I currently have a Pentxa Opico S4, which is great, but the shutter lag?

No bothered about lots of pixels and features, just need very compact and no lag. Price, not bothered if it meets criteria.

Any sugestions, but must be very compact like current S4 and no lag.

Re: New Compact - Quick Shutter Needed

Im afraid to tell you that all of them have shutter lag.

You can reduce it if you use manual focus and then shoot when ready - otherwise they're all much of a muchness.

Otherwise you are talking about milliseconds of difference.

If you want the shutter to open when you press the button then get a dSLR.

Hope this helps.

Re: New Compact - Quick Shutter Needed

The fuji f30 or f30 have virtually no shutter lag, 5 milliseconds is quoted, also a quick start up time, very compact, great in low light, great pictures, has won lots of awards, around £160 from Amazon.

Well recommended on here, try a search.

Re: New Compact - Quick Shutter Needed

This is what I have been looking for as well

Looking at the shutter release link, Sony seems to have one of the quickest

The Fuji f30/31 got rave reviews but accordingly the shutter lag is just average

Ahem, if price is no object then you could always go for a rangefinder Just kidding.

Actually, I don't even know what the difference between a rangefinder and an SLR or P&S. All I know is that they are VERY expensive, compact and have the quickest shutter releases. Don't think it's a suitable jump from a P&S though.

Re: New Compact - Quick Shutter Needed

I own a Ixus 700 for personal use and also use a Sony DSC-W50 for work. The W50 is supposed to be faster but I cannot honestly say I can tell any real world difference. The Canon AF is much quicker though. Build quality and picture quality wise the Canon is also far superior.

That's a good question and one I'm not 100% sure of the answer. I found this snippet from this review

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0403/04031101epsonrd1.asp

It says:

"A rangefinder is a type of camera that has a built-in device for measuring distance based on the principles of triangulation. The photographer focuses the camera by superimposing two slightly different views of a scene with the rangefinder. In general, compared to an auto-focus system, performance does not change even if lenses are swapped, and focus can be achieved quickly, accurately and with a light level that is nearly the same as the unaided eye, even in dimly lit locations."

Here's another review

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/re...pson-rd1.shtml

I must say that being used to a SLR viewfinder, I'm not sure if I want a viewfinder that's independent of what you see through the lens. Probably someone who has used both a rangefinder and slr can tell their experiences of the two.

Anyhow, I'm not sure the original poster was considering non p&s terroritory. Was just throwing something into the mix
