First Night Shots

A couple of night shots with my new D40, I have always been fascinated with night time photography but never had much luck until now....

Re: First Night Shots

Neither of those look like 'luck' to me. Well exposed and composed shots, both of them!

Well done!

Very very nice

Did you use a tripod or were these handheld?

Cheers Holo

Re: First Night Shots

Looks like the d40 is a very capable camera in the right hands.

I like the 2nd but the foreground is a bit busy IMO.The fountain, column and fish waterspout all up front is a bit distracting.

As a night shot experiment though, its pretty much spot on exposure wise.

nice shots

Re: First Night Shots

Great shots - I like the second one the most, I agree that it's quite 'busy' but it's all interesting stuff

Might have been nice to get some detail in the sky though, even if it was a very deep blue. Very good for a first effort with a new camera though.

Re: First Night Shots

Really nice shots Del but can you resize your pictures to 800pixels max against the longest edge and no more than 200kb file sizes thanks.

Re: First Night Shots

Right I have resized the pictures hope they are OK now.

Thanks for all the replys.

To answer a few Qs....

No tripod used, the shots were taken with a thing called The Pod which is basically a bean bag that screws into the bottom of the camera, a tripod will be my next purchase.

I agree with the foreground being a bit busy, but to be honest I was not expecting a lot that evening just wanted to get out and get some pictures under my belt.

I have to say that I am very pleased with the D40, just need to find the time to take more shots.

Re: First Night Shots

National Art Gallery is always a good place to take night shots, so many different angles.

They also look very good. I was please with my ones when I went there in December. Good work!

Re: First Night Shots

Good shots indeed. Nice and clear and sharp!

I reckon there will be a lot of this sort of shot in the competition, so I'm going to try something very different (if only I can think of what it is!).

Thanks guys.

Just noticed the competition, thanks Tobers, looks like I will have to get that tripod sooner rather than later.
