Question Pentax K100D & Sony Alpha A100 Lens Advice

Hello everybodypeeps!

Research research! This is killing me. To the point. As far as I can tell the A100 and K100D are basically the only entry level dSLR's with anti-shake/image stabilisation built in.

I've found 2 cracking deals on Amazon.com for both that require delivery to a US address (no problem there).

Question. Apart from the kit lenses (18-70mm) for both, I'm looking for advice for a mid-range zoom circa 300mm +.

Tamron and Sigma clearly come to mind . . but which is recommended? Either of these 2 or another manufacturer?

Replies on a £50.00 note to . . .

Re: Pentax K100D & Sony Alpha A100 Lens Advice

Kit lens on the Sony is 18-70 (not 18-55 as posted). I replaced the 18-70 on my A100 as it did feel a bit plasticky and was no good for close-ups - now have a Sigma 17-70 which has far better build and decent macro. The kit telephoto zoom for the Sony is a 75-300; again not bad quality wise but soft at the long end unless in good light. This is a rebadged Minolta model.
www.dyxum.com is a good site for reviews on all things Konika/Minolta/Sony-Alpha. Check out here ...

for the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro. This is about the best lens for the money in that zoom range (best price I have found is £143 with www.microglobe.co.uk). Sigma also do a 135-400 which I was looking at but it is circa £400+
I have been keeping an eye on ebay as there are some very good old Minolta lenses out there available used; eg. Minolta 70-210 F4 which goes for around £100-£150 second-hand.
