After using nikon film SLR cameras for years i have taken advantage of my mother being in hong kong and i am now the proud owner of a D80!
i have to give all credit to some friends of the family for knowing where to shop in HK (they live there) and thier driver/bodyguard known fondly by my mother as "the negotiator" who managed to get me the d80 for the crisp sum of £350!!! how dare i argue with that?!?!! amazing, have yet to use it as she just got back this morning but its safe to say im thrilled to bits!

I'm seriously tempted to upgrade from the D50 to the D80. If I could find one for that price i'd do it tomorrow.

My brother lives in Taiwan, perhaps I should look into it.

as far as i know this "negotiator" guy pushed pretty hard and wouldnt take any crap from the sales guy. And my mothers friends daughter (19, well spoken english girl thats lived in HK most of her life) used all the "dont give me tourist prices" lines. Im going to call her at some point to say thank you
The cheapest online HK price i had seen was still over 500 i think so i think this shows how much they have to play with out there compared to the uk

blimey excellent deal ush well done mate, any chance of finding out the name of the shop, i was thinking of going over to HK later in the year as you can get a return flight from oasis flights for £150, also is that covered on warranty in the UK ?

ill ask tonight and see if we can find out from those that live in HK, all i know is it was in a shopping centre (80% sure) on mainland china. If i find out ill keep you posted
Warranty wise, ill have to admit im not too concerned after years of working at jessops and knowing what nikon house is like (in kingston) the warranty means very little to them. If i need a repair my old boss will sort me out. Again ill check the card tonight and let you know. Its obvious that thats one of the main issues with buying abroad.

i dont think your far away there mate! i almost felt sorry for the shopkeepers with this guy around from what ive been told! like, bought one handbag (not real no doubt) got 6 free. Real sony portable storage for peanuts, free bag with my too cheap dslr, Yards upon yards of pure silk for next to nothing. Maybe he had some sort of jedi mind control
