Faulty Canon A540 ?

Hi all,

My wife was given a Canon A540 camera for Christmas from her parents to much delight, but the flash has stopped working completely so when she tries taking a picture with auto flash set, nothing happens. Also, when scanning around the menu for different options, the camera will turn itself off and say "Change Batteries". We've tried 2 sets of Duracel batteries but the same happens.

Anyone heard this happening before ? Looks like we might have a duff one.

Richie.

Duracell batteries are not ideal for a modern camera, you would be better off with good quality rechargeables.

Re: Faulty Canon A540 ?

But the batteries they are using would not be causing the problem assuming they are new.

I would take it back to the shop

You are probably correct, however it may well be worth trying some rechargeables first, as the outlined problems could well be down to lack of battery power.

We've tried 3 sets of batteries so I'm pretty certain it's the camera. I just wondered if there was a firmware upgrade that solves the problem.

Cheers,

Richie.

Do you have the AC adapter for this. If so you could try using this to rule out any battery problems. Other than that I'd take it back to the retailer first for a potential replacement before trying to load up any firmware.

I'm sending it back to get a replacement, the retailer (Rankhour) were very good and said to send it back with a letter saying why and a replacement would be sent out.

Richie.
