Newbie filter question

Hi,

Have been out and about a lot recently with the D80 taking various landscapes early morning (see sig for my flickr). Just bought a Sigma 10-20 in addition to my kit lens for this purpose. I'm interested in using a grad filter and other filters for landscape shots, particularly when the sky is plain.

Probably a silly question, but what do I need in addition to the filters themselves. In the mags they all look square and require particluar mounting holders. Is there anything specific to look out for with these?

Could anyone recommend a starter filter kit to go with the Sigma lens ?

Cheers.

Re: Newbie filter question

Why not add the filter with your editing software?

I'd rather capture the shot as best I can 'in camera'. Quite enjoy playing around with Photoshop, but I think I can get better images with filters.

Re: Newbie filter question

The main advantage is that you can expose the sky properly, which is hard to fix in post. The problem with fixed filters is that if the horzizon isn't in the right position in your composition relative to the filter, you're stuck. This is why a filter holder that allows you to move the filter is preferable.
