Canon G7

Did a search in the forum and didn't get any results. Anyone used this camera or have any opinion on it?

I'm looking for a versatile camera for all round use.

I don't think it's hit UK shops yet.

Re: Canon G7

Most places are saying special order 28 days. Should be good, but some people are moaning that it seems a step down from the G6. In it's own right, ie not comparing it to the G6 in looks good on paper.

Re: Canon G7

I don't think that moaning is really what they are doing. The G series is supposed to be the pinnacle of Canon's compact range (pro1 excepted). From what I can see many users of previous G series cameras have been disappointed that the G7 has lost some of the advanced features that were a fixture of this series, namely the twist and flip display and RAW. To them, it is effectively just the top of the A series, the A710is has a very similar set of features for vastly less cost and probably not a lot less IQ.

User reviews are varying widely at present from very poor to great, so we need some proper online reviews from the usual sites to get a better idea of it's true performance.

I will admit to being disappointed myself when you consider the price and the loss of the above features and won't be buying it as a replacement for my A620.
