Ordered a 24 - 105

I've just ordered the Canon 24-105 L from the digital camera company.
They are not showing in stock but it is for my birthday in Nov so I can wait anyway.
I got it for £699 with delivery.

Re: Ordered a 24 - 105

That's a very good price Jazz
The more that someone mentions this lens, the more I want one. I was contemplating getting a decent zoom next (something like the Canon EF-S 70-300IS once they start to become available again) but I know that I'd use the 24-105L a lot more. I already have the 17-85IS but I might offload that as the extra quality and longer reach of the 24-105 will be a huge benefit to the type of photography I like. Combined with my Canon 10-22, I'd be quite content to wait a while before eventually getting a zoom.

Re: Ordered a 24 - 105

The 10-22 + 24-105 is a very useful combination on a 1.6 crop with the added benifit that if you ever change to a full crop later on the 24-105 is still a keeper.

Yes, same here. I don't think my skills (not to mention funds) are up to being able to appreciate the extra PQ and it would cost a fortune to get the extra 1.6 times reach in lenses.

Re: Ordered a 24 - 105

I am trying to be sensible with a good selection.
The 10-20 is excellent for landscapes and to have a bit of fun with.
The 24-105 will be used 90% of the time, I hope it is all it's cracked up to be, looking forward to this one.
The 50mm f1.8 is ace, good for portraits, excellent quality for the money.

The 18-55 kit lens, going on ebay, I just don't use it as I do't like the feel of it, cheap...

I hope to get a 5D eventually, but it is probably going to be a 7D by the time I can afford one. I can't justify spending that much unless I want to start taking pictures for money. Then I will get rid of the 10-20 and get the 17-40 L.
I also want to build a cinema roon in the next few years.
Anyone know the lottery numbers for Saturday

Go on, I only paid £70 for it (until 9 months time)
The thing about lenses it that you will always get good money back for them, so they aren't really that much money. Think of it as an investment.

Re: Ordered a 24 - 105

I got one about a month ago (i started a thread to show off and the one thing that amazed me was that i walked in to Jacobs (who were advertising it for £849 on line) and they had two for £699. This was after going in to three other shops and being told there was a minimum 3 week backlog of orders (one shop said try in Nov). all within a mile of each other.
I love the lens but havent really used it much as ive been busy.
Ive just got a 400D so im hoping to get some good shots this wekend.
But ok, heres one i like, taken recently. not really an animal person but this guy looked bored so i paid him some attention
