Hong Kong cameras.

Off tot Hong Kong in 2 weeks time and will be looking to get another camera. Firstly is it worth getting one in Hong Kong? Is there much of a price saving?
If so, can any one recommend one for about £200. Already have an slr so just want one that is small to be taken every where, i.e. sking. 6M pixels and 3x zoom (ish). Would like a Sony one as all our other cameras are and can then swap memory cards.
Any help or ideas.

Re: Hong Kong cameras.

See you there - am off there in 2 weeks myself. Price savings are pretty good on lenses, filters etc, but not sure on P&S cameras. One thing to be aware of is that some companies won't honour warranties for cameras/bodies bought abroad - e.g. Nikon will honour waranties for lenses but not bodies or P&S cameras. If you have any specific brands in mind might be worth checking with the manufacturer before you go.

Small world.
What about duty free shopping. Would there be any warranty problems if i buy it here in duty free. I'm guessing not. Would there be much of a saving here at all. Looking at getting a Sony DSC-N1. Any one got any opinoins on this at all?

Re: Hong Kong cameras.

Can't comment on the Sony specifically as I have no experience of it, but in more general terms I believe you should be fine in terms of warranty buying duty free but not sure how great the savings will be.

One thing you could do (if you have time before you go) is what I have done - draw up a 'wants list' of possible makes/models, and write down the cheapest price you can get it in the UK (looking at sites like camerapricebuster, or onestop digital for lenses might help). This way if you see something in duty free or in Hong Kong, you'll have an immediate reference as to how much money you could be saving.
