Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

I had a quick play with the levels and the midtones / shadows / highlights and came up with this. I am by no means an expert though and am still learning. I expect others on the forum will be able to do a far better job.

To make it look even better you'd need to spend more time selecting the dark section of the shot at the bottom using the magnetic lassoo tool or the magic wand tool, then tweak the levels when you've got all those bits selected. It will bring the detail out in that section of the shot without bleaching out the moody sky, as my rather hasty effort above has done!

Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

I had a quick play as well. Used curves on the icecream and surrounding area only.

Also tried to reintroduce some detail where it had been blown out in the sky.

Fancy having a crack at my landscape over here?!

Single panoramic split over three canvases?

Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

Balanced out that flare you had on the right hand side. Is that what you wanted?

Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

Yeah, exactly.

How do I go about sorting that?

Apologies to Shardsta for hijacking the thread - at least we're still talking photoshop though!

Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

I looked for a peice of cloud that closely resembled the piece that was blown out, and gently cloned it in at about 80%, then cloned the sky in at about 15%, gradually building up to match the correct tone.

Obviously I spent about 5 mins on this, so with an hour or so you could do a much better job. It woudl be a bit more tricky on a high-res file also.

Re: If only my photoshop skills were better

I'm trying to bring some of the detail out on the hillside at the right of the picture, underneath where the light comes across the shot.

I'm finding it tough to select the right bits and only adjust them - I am trying to do it on a laptop using the trackpad!

I think the oranges in the foreground could benefit from a bit of a colour boost too
