Online photography courses

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of an online photography course.

I am looking into this as my local college are pretty useless and haven't returned any of my emails or calls.

I'd like to learn everything from the bottom up really, and in particular how the manual settings on my camera work, and what difference they make to a shot - I always shoot on auto!

I've seen a few advertised but they're not particularly cheap at c£150 each so I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I splash the cash.

I've got a Fuji s5500 at the moment but would really like to move into the world of DSLR once I know how to use one properly, and the s5500 has enough to play with to get me started.

Thanks in advance

Indeed a very shabby site for a photography school!

Thanks for the pointer. Would be interested to know if anyone has used them. I am very sceptical of the 'student' feedback on the site.

Re: Online photography courses

Have a look here....

http://www.lynda.com/ (some free trials here)

http://www.radiantvista.com/video_tutorials/ (free)

I've used both sites for tutorials on Photoshop. I'm not sure how useful they would be for photographic techniques but have a look. All the tutorials I've tried so far seem pretty effective at getting the point across. Of course, these are short tips and techniques rather than full blown courses as such. My local authority offers some photographic course as evening classes and/or day trip excursions but they still include darkroom technique at the back end of the course rather than catering for digital photography and editing and that seems to miss the point of most photography today, especially for those seeking instruction. Some more tutorial sites here.....

Re: Online photography courses

I have noticed that the Open University have now got a digital photography course here.

Could be interesting.
