Some Pics fom break in Devon and Cornwall

These are a few selected pics I took while on short few days working holiday in Devon adn Cornwall.

This is the house where the family who ran the DoyleCarte theatre group lived. The pics of flowers are from the gardens. I'm not a flower pic sort of guy but I thought I'd have a go as they were pretty cool flowers. The one of the Lily is probably my favourite along with the green foliage thing. I love the texture of the green thing and the lily I am impressed with only because it was not a cut stem but was one that was growing in a shadowey tropical marshy area and I managed to frame it nicely.

A rockyheadland at Blackpool sands beside Dartmouth in Devon

Fistral Beach, where the RipCurl thing took place thatHCKing was at. I took these the Monday after it was all over. One pic to give idea of how busy it was and another that I love of a surf dude who joined me on a rocky outcrop to watch his mates in the surf. Just after this pic I got completely soaked as a large wave crashed over the rocks beside me. Luckily the L lens is waterproof....I did have to drive for 4hrs with soaked trousers to get home though.

Doh!

Thanks everyone. The Thinker is a kind of classic to me. I think I'll get it printed BIG for my office.

Fistral beach is a COOL place. I now want to go back for a proper holiday and try surfing.

House was my sigma 10-20 wide lens

Last two were 70-200 Canon F4L

Pretty sure the other three were Sigma 24-70 f2.8 macro lens

The Sigma's have circular polarising filters on them as well

Excellent pics, Gordon. All really nice and sharp.
I really need to get a polariser for my Sigma.

But am i the only one that thinks the beach shot is really soft? could be my monitor but i cant see anything sharp in it at all
I realise they have been reduced for web but people are saying how sharp the shots are and i just cant see it.

The beach shot is pretty soft. I never did any sharpening to it. Also the Fstop setting I used, F8 I think will have put the back half of the beach out of focus compared to the front part. I need to learn more about what Fstop gives the ultimate back to front focus. I think with Stop up near 20 something it'd all be sharp and it could have made a great PEOPLE shot for te comp. It's one of those shots where you start looking around to see what everyone is doing and there is always something new you haven't seen

Cheers,

Gordon

OK just gone and done a slight sharp mask on it. Uploaded to PBASE so if you do a refresh of your browser, after dumping the cache of stored images in it, you should see the new version

Thanks, looks a bit better to my eyes. i think it could also be due to the amount of shadow on the subjects but that is part of what makes the shot i guess.
The beach look very crowded, i dont like them like that but like you say, there is lots to look at.
Heres my ideal beach from cornwall last year and yeah, weather was awfull
