Digital Camera recommendations for elderly person

Hi

My mother wants a digital camera but bless her she's not the sharpest tool in the box anymore when it comes to technology and she has difficulty pressing small buttons and looking at small screens etc.

I appreciate you're all probably into the latest greatest hi-tech kit but if anyone has any suggestions for a really simple to use camera that still takes a decent image, ideally with some nice sized buttons, a nice clear screen and simple to use zoom feature then that would be much appreciated. Cost not really an issue if the camera fits the brief.

Thanks in advance

I bought a Sanyo Xacti VPC-E6 a couple of weeks ago which has a large 3" LCD screen on the back which is very easy on the eyes. Good job really as it doesn't have a traditional viewfinder. So far I've found the picture quality to be great, it's easy to use it even got five out of five stars from T3 magazine.

The buttons on it are not huge but they are well spaced and easy to press especially the zoom which is slightly smaller than a penny and controls both in and out by pressing up or down. To select menu options and to view pictures there is a small joystick type button which I've found to be easy to use but I suppose it could cause problems.

Looking on the Sanyo website it would appear that this model has been discontinued which is probably why it only cost me £119 from Amazon but if you don't need a top of the line up to date model you might be able to find it for a knockdown price or if you can't the replacement model might be worth a look but I'm afraid that I don't know the model number.

To sum up it has great picture quality, a bright large LCD screen, easy to use and can just be left on auto but some of the buttons could be a problem depending on how much mobility your Mum has in her hands.

Here's one I took earlier using it's macro mode:

Thanks for that, the E6 looks great with good reviews but I'm struggling to find it anywhere for less than around £250. I can see the S6 on Amazon for £109, is that the one you have?

This is the one that I have but unfortunatly it looks like I got lucky with the price that I paid as Amazon don't seem to sell it themselves any more and Empire Direct are selling it through them for £222. This is the follow up model The picture of the back looks exactly the same as mine.

EDIT: Just been to the empire direct site and they are selling the new version for the same price as the old.

Thanks, I think I'll go for the E60 from EmpireDirect, looks like a good camera and the large touch sensitive button looks ideal.

Cheers for that.

No problem, shame you couldn't get the old one at the price I paid but it looks like for once I was in the right place at the right time. If it handles images the same way as mine then you should be able to fit just over 340 photo's on a 1gig sd card using the 6mp setting.

Mine also has a 10mp setting but that's using inerpolation so I never use it and the image size of 6mp is plenty big enough any way.

The touch sensitive button is pretty good, you just touch it for auto focus and then press the button half way down to take the picture. When your trying to change modes though you need to make sure you're not touching it or the button surrounding as it will cause problems, I thought mine was broken until I realised I was still touching it.
