Any naturalists on here?

I was painting sealant on my patio and found this guy lurking under the BBQ. I'm assuming it is some sort of toad.

Looks like one to me, though I couldn't tell the difference between a toad or a frog. You could lick it and see what happens, or is that only in America?

Did it have a yellow stripe down it's back ? If so it's a Natterjack toad. They tend to live in sandy areas.
There a reasonable little site here with photos of UK reptiles.

Thanks guys and thanks for the link JohnG. It didn't have a yellow stripe so I think it was probably a Common Toad. From the size, I'd guess it was a youngster so the adult markings may not have developed. Anyway, it is safely in the undergrowth again and not covered in nasty sealant

Another way to tell them apart is that frogs jump and toads walk in a fashion.

Nice shot of the frog. You got a much better angle than I was able to get. I had a 70-200mm lens on at the time and was unable to get down low as there was a wall between me and the subject

I had to take the picture standing up, on the other side of the wall.
