First foray into DSLR

Ok its my turn to delve into the delights of DSLR with my new pressie a D50, I know its an entry level but my last digi camera was part of a DCRPC100 DV Camcorder so this is a giant leap.

Can anyone give their opinion on a telephoto lens (upto 300 max) that works well with the D50. I have the standard 18-55 (I think.)
