What camera are you using, I assume its a point and shoot one.
TBH most of the shots just look like normal snaps, but there are a couple of creative ones.
The 1st one with the pigeon in, the holdall one, the bench one, the pigeon one and the second to last are particularly rubbish, you have just stood and snapped, where as it would have been better if you would have got down low to try a get a better picture.
The one wth tower bridge in is better, with the railings drawing you in to the picture, which also add a bit of foreground interest.

Sorry to be a bit harsh but next time stop and think before you take the shot and have a look around to see if you can make the picture more interesting, no-one wants to see pictures of a bag, or a weed.

Sorry, I've been messing about getting the images uploaded and missed out that these were taken with a Casio QVR-40 by my four year old daughter - she sees the photos here while I'm brousing and has been bugging me to post hers.

Technicaly average, composition unimaginative, looks like my 7yr old son took them.

Sorry to be brutally honest, dont want to offend but honesty is the best policy. Slow down the taking process, think about the depth of field and composition, and what you are trying to capture and show in the image. Keep snapping.

Just read the above post... That explains it then. Now for her there not bad at all.

I have a 3 1/2 year old but she is still using a toy camera - don't trust her with a proper camera yet.

Mark, I suggest that you don't show this thread to your daughter, she'll be scarred for life

Hopefully, she won't be able to read yet.

If she can:

Excellent shots, keep up the good work.

Artistically they may be just snaps but technically some of them are pretty good in terms of exposure and focus. I know cameras are auto everything these days but some of these snaps are better than a few I've seen on these forums (ooh contentious ). Pretty steady hand for a four year old wouldn't you say Mark ?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire!
Jazz monkey said it all really I do like the Blue Bag shot really vibrant colours, it just little things with some of the others your shadow with the weed shot the funny angle looking down the wall of the tower of london.
Thats not by any chance your 4 year old on the other side of the lens on the bench?

It really is a sight seeing this little girl flitting around one moment, then carefully studying a particular scene before taking the shot!

Thanks all for the kind and critical words - my daughter would take it as a compliment that her photos look like they were taken by a seven year old!

I do sense a little "suspicion" though, so here are a couple of shots of my daughter in action taken with my Olympus E-500...

My 10 year old also likes taking pics with my 350D. he has a good eye but as yet i dont trust him enough to let him loose with it although he came to one of my gigs recently had i let him use my 350D with 50mm 1.8 and although a lot of the shots were blurred due to camera movement as he doesnt really understand the meter and speed readings the angles and composition were good. even my 2 year old knows what button to press and then to look on the lcd to see what he took (usualy his feet)
Its good that kids today have acces to equipment that helps them express themselves that we didnt have when we were that age (well, me anyway as im 42)

I like that night shot Dave. It's something that I'm looking forward to trying out when we visit Weymouth.

Part of the reason for travelling to the Tower was for me to try out my new E-500 and FZ30 - so here's a shot from both... which is which, though?

The one on the left is the FZ30??? Say this because the colouring looks cooler than the one on the right, but this maybe post processing. Just my initial reaction.

"The young shall grow" ( and cring when they see their " baby photos")
Good pictures are meant to intrugue the viewer as to what the photogrhapher saw that made then want to "click". If they can not do that they get passed over very quickly (like a bad smell! ).
Its not just about technical ability or technique: It is a bit of science and art. Which is why despite the explosion of digital cameras people still need professional photographers

Certainly not all picture can be "good" but there has to be a starting level and then steady improvement :
Still Full marks for encouraging her so early she can only get better: just post them with a bit more restraint or get her her own web site

senu, I'm sure the pictures intrigue her.

Her own website is a good idea. I got a cheapo camera for my son's fifth birthday in August (£20 from empire stores on offer, but it is really rubbish). Might set him up his own website, then he could show the kids at school.
