Are these lens's any good?

I have seen this on ebay

I wondered if it would be any good, and if it would produce the effect those pictures suggest?

I now have the Canon PowerShot A610, so I would like know

If anyone has any expierence with this lens and a A610, that would be great

I live in the UK too and I am not sure how the VAT works, as I have not bought anything over £18 from the US before

Or if anyone could point me in the right direction of buying something like this in the uk for up to about £30 it would also be a great help

sorry i believe that to be rubbish, a £20 lense element IMPROVING YOUR IMAGE QUALITY???????? so why do lense manufaturers spend so much in developing lense elements to improve th quality when they could just buy an element from OPTIKA for the humble price of one dollop of rocking horse ****.

id say if anything the quality of the lens will decrease the quality of your images, simply because the lens glass will not be anywhere near as good as the pieces of glass in your cameras built in lens.

So where would be the cheapest best place to get lens's a telephoto lens and adapter possibly some filters, what brands should I be looking out for for my camera? And where are the best places to buy them that accept either solo/paypal and have next day delivery

I would now like to buy a telephoto lens (presumeing that it is a telephoto one I need to add more zoom) and an adapter for my camera, preferbally from a UK site since I live here with next day delivery

Are there any up to about £50 anyone could recommend? (Hopefully with pics, and explain what 1.75x 2.00x etc mean)

I basically want a lens powerfull enough to take some closeups of birds, zoo animals/safari animals obviously from a distance, if you know what I mean and a bit more

Please help

mr jones gave you good advice to avoid the cheap lenses and adapters you find on ebay and other places.
The best thing you can do is get Canons own accessory lenses and adapters which are specially made for the camera and will be the best optically you can buy.
You need a lens adapter LADC58B which screws over the existing lens available at http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...435868-6769551 which they sell for £11.61 and the telephoto lens TC-DC58N also available from http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...Fencoding=UTF8 which they sell for £58.36...the two together qualify for free p&p.
The tele coversion lens screws onto the adapter and converts your existing 35-140mm lens to 61-245mm (these are 35mm equivalent focal lengths) giving you a good bit more reach at the telephoto end.
You can see photos at the amazon site...but you can google the model nos and see if they are available cheaper from other UK suppliers.

In a word...yes.
You will often come across sample images in this forum where the pic was taken with e.g. a 70-200mm zoom lens...in effect this is the sort of range you will have using that adapter and tele lens (slightly more in fact).

Is there anything else advisable to get? (apart from a battery charger and some batteries) or stacks of alkaline batteries

I'm thinking of teaching myself the best I can, getting advise here and there, but thinking of doing a photography course (I'm ill so can do the course for £15) to help with this new hobby. Is there any advice and help you could give me?

those lenses will generally be on a 350d or d50 etc. so will actually add around another 50% on from what i understand taking them up to 300mm wheras what nero is looking at is 61-245mm (35mm equivalent) which is slightly under. Apart from that picky point the convertor will almost certainly be fine for the zoo.

On all the sites that I find, it says that the LADC58B is for the G3 or G5?, I have the A610 so will this still fit?

I have just found on the 'system map' that came with the camera that the converter adapter is a:
LA-DC58F.

Any ideas where I can find one in stock? (for about £20 delivered)

the lens will have a standard thread size, it seems from your adaptor its 58mm, the model numbers g3 and g5 say so because they differ from the mount on the G2. Dont worry yourself over this
Once you have that lens adaptor you can screw in wideangle, telephoto lens and filters so will allow you to do a bit more with your camera

To be on the safe side just Google "LA-DC58F" and tick the "Pages from the UK" box and that should throw up a few UK retailers.

Take a look at LensmateOnline . They have an adapter for the A610/620 and example photos of wide and telephoto using it. I had the adapter for my G2, though i just used it to mount filters on as opposed to attaching lenses on.

If you look in the post above you will see that I have ordered the official canon 58mm one, hoever lensmate will be good to get a 52mm adapter and a lens.

It's a shame that they only have buildings as with/without telephoto lens samples, as I cant tell much difference there. Does anyone have any pics like this
