Focusing with a Panny FZ20

Focusing with a Panny FZ20

Answered a query by Beachy the other night and then sort of asked a question of my own, thought I better set a thread for this on its own instead of hi-jacking one. Question was -

"While we are on a FZ20 theme anyone got any tips for focusing on infinty, tried a few moon shots tonight, nothing worth putting up though.

In the old manual film camera days anything past 20m or so seemed to be wind it all one way and leave it, focus ring on FZ20 just goes round and round. Any tips ?"

I had an FZ20 for about 6 months and that was the reason I got rid of it...the LCD viewfinder was hopeless for accurate focussing in low light.
I believe they have doubled the pixel count in the FZ30s viewfinder but give me TTL viewing on a proper DSLR screen anyday.

For moon shots you can try auto-focus. Stick it on spot meter, aperature F5.6 or so and aim at the edge of the moon. The whole moon should come into focus on the LCD.
