Sony P9 Problem

My wife has had a Sony P9 Cybershot camera for about 3 years with no problems until now and I'm posting this in the faint hope that someone else has had this problem and knows the answer.
The camera has 3 flash modes - auto,no flash or always flash. The camera should turn on with the mode it was last used in - in her case it was always auto. Now the camera has developed a problem where it always turns on with the 'no flash' option no matter what it was last used on. Sony Service Centre quote a ridiculous fixed fee of £120 to repair their cameras and although it is something she can live with it would be nice to fix it.
Has anyone else had this problem or know a solution.....Thanks

I've got the P7 which is identical except only 3.2mp, this sounds very symptomatic of the camera being set to power saving mode. Go to the setup menus and check (sorry at work at the moment or i could tell you exactly where it is). When in power saving the flash will always be off by default.

Thanks Fabbers, that fixed it. Wife denies all knowledge of how Power Set was set on - don't they always.
