Thumbs up Paintshop Pro X - Selective Colouring

Ahoy there!

For anyone who has wanted to try their hand at selective colouring, ie; keeping colour in an area or object whilst converting everything else into B & W in Paintshop Pro X (I don't know if this is the same for previous versions).

I haven't gone beyond this guide, but any additional suggestions welcomed.

1. Open your photo
2. Enlarge it by scrolling your mouse wheel
3. Pick your selection tool. (use freehand smart edge)
4. Slowly click around the edges of the part you wish to separate (right mouse click to de-select/finish)
5. Use 'shift' button to select another area or object(s) and click around edges (if required), right mouse click to de-select/finish
6. Choose: 'selections' then 'invert'
7. Your selected area(s) is now the part around the main subject
8. Choose 'adjust' 'hue' and 'saturation', then 'colourize'
9. Slide the sliders all the way to the left removing all colour from the background (or set all values to '0') click 'OK'
10. You should now have a coloured subject with B&W background
11. Right click anywhere in the pic to remove your selection tool

Apply any filtering and/or frame/border if required

12. Select 'save as' to avoid losing your original picture

The smart edge function of the freehand selection tool is an excellent feature in pspX. I still find myself using just the normal freehand tool when I need to isolate more complex shapes though as it gives me more control (can be damn frustrating though ).
