Any luck with the usual turn off, clean contacts stick it back on? also note the EF alignment mount. (I'm sure you knew that tho)

Doesn't sound good - a quick look around would suggest the following quick checks:

1) Try camera with another lens to ensure camera (and CF card are still OK)
2) Fully charge battery
3) Check lens contacts

Was it from e-bay or a retailer mate? Hopefully you can run thru the few tests and if no joy get a replacement!

Might be worthwhile taking the battery out until you do have time to mess

When turned on the camera says 'Err cf' and when I try and format the card I get 'Err 99'

Always happens to me

Steve,

Make sure you've not bent a pin inserting the CF card....

They can be bent back CAREFULLY.

Try another card.

Error 99 is a generic error code, might be a faulty lens or contacts, or just follow error 'cf' if the camera throws a wobbly...try another lens.

Power off when swapping card or lens

If you do FAT32 at least, should not be a problem?

Quote from another forum,

its for a 10D, but same applies to a 350D

Here is what Canon said to try:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I'm sorry to hear that
your EOS 10D is displaying an "ERR 99" message.

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the
following:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should
be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of
steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.

If the "ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.

If you see the "ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

Just about to post two pics in the sharing thread, not candids or portraits but the 7th and 9th shots I took with it. Just messing, but some interesting results

Seen one of these advertised at AJ Purdys http://www.ajpurdy.co.uk for £73.00 but is does'nt say MK11 after it. I've checked the specs with Jessops web site and can see no difference, is there a Mk1 and Mk11 version of this lense and does it matter.

It's my understanding that th MkI was a metal mount, but the MkII is a plastic mount.
Very difficult, if not impossible to find a MkI (second-hand maybe).
No real difference otherwise.
