Been out taking some pictures today, finally!

Not long got back from Manchester where I managed to grab an hour or so to have a wander round the City Centre whilst Lorna stuffed her face with sushi in Selfridges.

All of these are straight out of the camera with the kit lens, just a re-size and border added for your viewing pleasure

This one has been cropped from an original and has been sharpened a touch.

So pleased with the new camera, have taken nearly 300 shots over last night and today

I must admit, the pictures do have that 'quality' about them that I hoped I would get with the upgrade, just got to learn where all the controls are now so I can make more of what the camera can offer. Virtually all of these were shot in Av mode, the flash scared me when it popped up the first time indoors

Pete, I wanted to just put a nice small and thin border round them just to seperate the image from the forum background. I quite like the simplicity of it.

Big time. I wonder if I can add a border in iranview. I hope to get photoshop but my d-drive is broken so cant install anything at the mo and have not got the cash to fix it as bought that 50mm 1.8 on ebay

As I said before, I think viewing them on a monitor only tells half the story, some of my Australian adventure pics looked average on the PC but look stunning printed and thats only 3mp etc. I can only hazzard a guess as to how good these would look printed. Also, the resizing does the picture no justice.

Some great pics there Steve -- glad you like your 350D. I love the one of the wheel with the blue sky behind, it is really great.

Steve, cant sleep and looking back over your pics.

Funny, but thinking about it, a few of these pics would have nobbled a good set of votes in last months photo comp 'looking up'. Irony at its best eh?

You can in a roundabout way.

Left click on a photo and make a small crop around the edge, then edit>cut, leave selection, default colour is black so you should end up with a black border around the picture, down side is if its a picture you're not happy cropping as you are going to lose that part of the picture you selected.

Very Very Nice Pics
Out of curiousty ...Why Av ?..( Aperture priority AE) Were you aiming for the smallest aperture( largest f stop) possible to enhace sharpness and focus ?
That would explain the flash popping up to balance out for reduced light to the sensor from a smaller aperture. Regardless of motive the pics are great.A little sharpening in PS always seems to enhace the pics ( with possible exception of people when a certain softness is desirable)
PS: You have real steady hands for somebody taking pic "under the influence" .Just gave the attached pic a little perspective correction in PS: Does it look any better to you?

Photoshop Elements too has the "Stroke" effect which automates an outline/ border on your image

The flash only popped up inside, not whilst I was outside. I used Av mode so I didn't have to worry about the exposure and left the apeture at f5.6 most of the time. To be honest, it may as well have been in full auto for what changes I made

if you ever get a flashgun try boucing and or diffusing it, its a little harsh on the candids, and you could do without the shadows, i like the outdoor ones though especially the one you want to print big

Just using the standard flash at the moment but I thing a decent flash gun may be on the cards in the future. I took about 50 shots at my parents anniversary celebrations on Sunday and some of them have not taken the flash too well whereas some have. Really needed to be bouncing the light about but the stock flash doesn't give that option

i love that pub! its great, apart from they obviously didnt bank on the fact people would need to actually get to the bar! its great though, ive had some funny times in that beer garden with my mates

have you noticed that 2 pubs share the same beer garden, one pub is prices as hell and the other is dead cheap, although you have to drnk eingerbrau or whatever it is they selL!

First time I went into that pub was a couple of years ago when Lorna and I met Seany, his mrs, Adrenochrome and his wife. Ended up being a total session and we regretted it the next day, or at least our heads did!

The pint of Guinness I had in there when I took the pictures wasn't that bad either

These were the first few pictures from the Canon 350d with the basic kit lens

This is just awesome IMO Steve.. I have an Canon i9950 A3 printer and would love to see this full size..
